The combined choirs of First Presbyterian and St. John’s Episcopal Churches in Grand Haven look forward to presenting Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem on All Saints’ Sunday, November 3, at 4pm.

Fauré composed his best-known work, Requiem, in 1887, “purely,” as he said, “for the pleasure of it.” In an interview in 1902, Fauré commented: “It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death, and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience.” His Requiem is about peaceful acceptance and release, and the music is serene, elevating, and comforting; almost entirely gentle in spirit.

The event will be held at First Presbyterian Church and is free, open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.
