Tyler Kivel and Nicholas Schmelter have offered more than one dozen collaborative performances in the United States and Canada since commencing a Midwest tour of piano organ duo recitals on February 28, 2018. The ensemble has realized creative new orchestrations of selections by Anderson, Debussy, Grainger, Lutoslawski, Poulenc, Saint-Saëns, and Shostakovich.
Chicago-based pianist Tyler Kivel is an active soloist, freelance performer, teacher, and chamber musician, including his faculty role at ChiArts and musical direction of Thrones! The Musical Parody. Kivel has earned several competition-based awards and made his Carnegie Hall debut in April 2018. Nicholas Schmelter is director of worship and congregational life at First Presbyterian Church of Caro (Michigan) as well as artist in residence at Trinity Episcopal Church (Bay City, Michigan) and Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church (Flint, Michigan). Nicholas is a frequent recitalist, offering performances throughout Michigan as well as in Washington, D.C., Milwaukee, London and Toronto, Canada, and other regions.
