SUMMARY:Faure' Requiem
DESCRIPTION:The combined choirs of First Presbyterian and St. John’s Episcopal Churches in Grand Haven look forward to presenting Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem on All Saints’ Sunday\, November 3\, at 4pm. \nFauré composed his best-known work\, Requiem\, in 1887\, “purely\,” as he said\, “for the pleasure of it.” In an interview in 1902\, Fauré commented: “It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death\, and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: a happy deliverance\, an aspiration towards happiness above\, rather than as a painful experience.” His Requiem is about peaceful acceptance and release\, and the music is serene\, elevating\, and comforting; almost entirely gentle in spirit. \nThe event will be held at First Presbyterian Church and is free\, open to the public\, and all are welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:Good Friday
DESCRIPTION:Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus’ crucifixion. It is an especially important time to pray for the church and the world for whom Christ gave his life. The passion narrative according to John is read on Good Friday\, because at the heart of John’s passion narrative is the good news of the cross — the victory of the cross and a hopeful look toward the resurrection. \nOur Good Friday worship service begins at noon in the sanctuary. All are welcome.

Rooted in ancient Christian traditions\, this style of worship invites participants into a sense of inner stillness and spiritual communion\, helping us become more attentive to the presence of God. Each service lasts approximately 30 minutes. \nFollowing the service\, everyone is invited to gather in the church lounge for a soup supper. If you would like to bring a pot of soup or loaf of bread\, please use this link to let us know: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4EABA62CA20-61605059-soup#/

SUMMARY:Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner & Game Night
DESCRIPTION:The Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner is back! Come out for a night of delicious (and free!) food and fun games for all ages! \nWhy do we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? Historically\, it was the last chance for a bit of indulgence before 40 days of fasting\, and also an opportunity to use up food that couldn’t be eaten during Lent. This included eggs\, fat and milk\, which were made into pancakes and eaten on that day. \nLet’s all celebrate and indulge together before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. All are welcome\, and bring your friends!
