SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we begin the season of Lent\, a time for Christians to reflect on their mortality\, their sinfulness\, and the dying of self that comes with new life in Christ. \nDuring the Ash Wednesday worship service\, there will be a time for the imposition of ashes on the forehead or wrist for those who wish to receive them. Ashes are a biblical reminder of our mortality: “You are dust\, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19). The spreading of ashes on foreheads is a visible reminder of this. The ashes also represent sorrow and repentance for sin. \nPlease join us in worship on Wednesday\, February 18\, as we begin our journey to Holy Week and the hope of Easter.

SUMMARY:Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner & Game Night
DESCRIPTION:Come out for a night of delicious (and free!) food and fun games for all ages! \nWhy do we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? Historically\, it was the last chance for a bit of indulgence before 40 days of fasting\, and also an opportunity to use up food that couldn’t be eaten during Lent. This included eggs\, fat and milk\, which were made into pancakes and eaten on that day. \nDinner begins at 5\, with games in the lounge starting around 5:30\, including Bible Bingo (with prizes!). Let’s all celebrate and indulge together before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. All are welcome – bring your friends!

SUMMARY:Faure' Requiem
DESCRIPTION:The combined choirs of First Presbyterian and St. John’s Episcopal Churches in Grand Haven look forward to presenting Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem on All Saints’ Sunday\, November 3\, at 4pm. \nFauré composed his best-known work\, Requiem\, in 1887\, “purely\,” as he said\, “for the pleasure of it.” In an interview in 1902\, Fauré commented: “It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death\, and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: a happy deliverance\, an aspiration towards happiness above\, rather than as a painful experience.” His Requiem is about peaceful acceptance and release\, and the music is serene\, elevating\, and comforting; almost entirely gentle in spirit. \nThe event will be held at First Presbyterian Church and is free\, open to the public\, and all are welcome to attend.
