Our mission is to effectively and joyfully nurture the faith of our children by ministering God’s teachings through education and supplemental activities. Shine! is our Children’s Ministries program at First Presbyterian Church. We offer programming for children in nursery through grade 6.
If you will be visiting with us for the first time on Sunday, please check in at the Children’s Ministries desk in the main gathering area. Someone will be available to help guide you through the child check-in process and show you where your child’s room will be.
Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do
and will praise your Father in heaven. – Matthew 5:16
Shine! is our Children’s Ministries Christian Education program at First Presbyterian Church, using a dynamic program called “Feasting on the Word.” “Feasting on the Word” is a lectionary-based curriculum that provides intentional connections between education and worship. All age levels learn the same Bible lesson each week through activities, games, and art appropriate to their grade level. We offer this programming from 10:00-11:00 a.m. during the school year for children in nursery through grade 6.
Young Children & Worship
Young Children & Worship, our program for 4 year-olds through 3rd graders on Sunday mornings during the worship services, was created to make a special place where children can come to encounter God, to be still with God and to listen to God. It is a joyful way for children to worship God.
After the children’s message in both worship services, children are excused to their own worship service. Young Children & Worship uses the same order of worship that we do in “big” worship – Gathering, Proclaiming, Responding, and Sending. This program is key in reaching our goal of nurturing and developing mature Christian disciples.
For children in 4th-6th grades, worship materials are available at the sanctuary entrances. These materials help kids follow along during the worship service, and helps them to feel like they are participating. Our goal is to incorporate them into the life and mission of the congregation, and to nurture them into an ever-growing relationship with God and others.
Shine34 is a fellowship, fun, and service group for those in the 3rd and 4th grade. This group meets 3 times over the school year.
Shine56 is a gathering of 5th and 6th grade students where we eat, play games, have fun, and grow closer to God and each other. We meet every Sunday evening from 6:30-8:00 in Fellowship Hall.
Summer Camp Grants
Our new “Camping Pathways Grant Program” is designed to encourage all children from Kindergarten thru 12th grade to attend a Christian summer camp. This is not a need-based program, and all children who apply and are members will receive a grant.
